Jazz, Singing, Hip Hop and more…

Claire has chosen to do her Arts Focus.  As part of this she did a dance workshop.

Check out her report…

“On Monday  the 22nd of September 2014 I attended a workshop for dancing. The day started at 9:00AM and finished at 4:00PM. The 5 styles of dance that we had classes in were Jazz, Singing, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Acrobatics. The workshop was divided into Junior and Senior classes. Firstly the senior class started off the day with jazz. Jazz class was run by one of the teachers from my dance school Kate Beattie. The Jazz session started with some warm ups and abbs and corner work, then we learned a routine.

After 2 hours of Jazz we had a well deserved break for recess and then after recess it was time for Singing and Hip Hop with the Special guest teachers, Jacinta and Jordan from The Clique. We started off with Jordan teaching us some of his favourite Hip Hop routine after we mastered the Hip Hop routine with moved on to singing  with Jacinta. Jacinta firstly showed us the song we were going to be singing which was Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Niki Minaj. After that Jacinta informed us about where you breath from when you sing and then we preformed some warm up exercises called bubbles and mum. After we did the warm up we sang the song through without the music then with.

After our singing and Hip Hop session we had a well deserved lunch break. After our lunch break we went upstairs to studio 3 and had a lyrical class with another guest teacher Georgia, our lyrical session started with some warm ups and the we learned a routine.

After the lyrical session we had our last session for the day which was Acrobatics. The Acro session started with us doing some acro warm ups which consisted of push ups rock and rolls, superman rolls and splits, after the warm ups with did some easy tricks such as bridge, split rolls, forward rolls  then we moved onto some more complicated tricks such us walking bridges , handstands and walking handstands. Then the classes was split into two groups those who normally do acrobatics at dancing and those who are just starting acrobatics, those who were experienced in acrobatics moved onto doing some normal tricks and those who weren’t doing acrobatics were assisted by the acrobatics teacher Brielle. I was in the group that doesn’t normally do acrobatics. We started off by being assisted with doing handstand filps, then we moved onto doing walkovers and being assisted with them.

We then came back together as a group and Brielle  got out the trampoline. We started with some simple jumps such as tuck, straight and split, we then moved onto some more complex jumps such as full and half turns, I was the only person who could properly do the full jump.  After the half and full turns we moved onto summy saults. After we had a few tries at them we moved onto trick of choice then our session was finished.

Overall the workshop was very successful and I learned lots of new skills and had a lot of fun and tried things that made me challenge myself such as in acrobatics trying new tricks.”

Please remember these are just some ideas… it doesn’t mean you have to do your Queens Guide like this.  What is a challenge to one girl is not necessarily a challenge to another girl!
